Most buildings have more ELV than they have working ELV ELV - extra-low voltage - is where the gap between what is installed and what actually functions is widest in almost every building we survey.
The pattern is consistent. Cameras that record but at a resolution and angle that makes footage useless when it is finally needed. Recorders that filled up and stopped overwriting eighteen months ago. Access control with credentials still active for staff who left years ago. What we get called for most
"We need footage and can't get it." The most common and most frustrating call
Causes: the camera was offline, storage had filled, retention was configured too short, the resolution was inadequate to identify anyone, or the angle never covered the area. All preventable with a health check.
Cameras covering the wrong things
Wide shots of car parks that identify nobody, and nothing covering the actual entry points. Camera positioning is a design decision, not an installation detail - repositioning existing cameras often improves a system more than adding new ones.
Access control with no credential hygiene
Cards active for former staff, no audit trail, no idea who holds what. An audit and cleanup is quick and closes a real security gap.
Data cabling that nobody can trace
Unlabelled, untested, installed in a hurry during fit-out. Remediation - testing, labelling, documenting - turns a recurring problem into a fixed one.
Systems that were never properly commissioned

Frequently asked
How many CCTV cameras do I need?
It depends on what you need to see rather than area alone. Identification-quality coverage of entry points matters more than wide overview shots. We survey and propose positions based on the risks you are actually trying to address.
How long should CCTV footage be retained?
Thirty days is a common baseline, but requirements vary by sector and by any specific obligations that apply to your premises. Retention drives storage sizing, so it is decided at design stage. We can advise, and recommend you confirm any regulatory requirement applicable to your business.
Can you upgrade my existing CCTV without replacing everything?
Often yes. Analogue systems can sometimes be upgraded over existing cabling, and many systems improve dramatically through repositioning, refocusing and reconfiguration alone.
My cameras record but the footage is unusable. Why?
Usually resolution, positioning or lighting. A camera at the wrong height or angle, or facing into a bright background, produces footage that identifies nobody. This is a design problem, and it is fixable.
Do you maintain systems you didn't install?
Yes. We audit first, report on condition, then propose maintenance. Many systems need only configuration and cleaning.
Can you integrate CCTV, access control and intercom?
In many cases, yes, depending on the equipment. Integration is often possible without replacing systems, and we assess feasibility at audit.
Do you handle fire alarm systems?
We maintain and interface with fire alarm systems, including the door-release integration. Where a system requires certified specialist work or Civil Defence approval, we coordinate the appropriately approved party.
What ongoing maintenance does ELV need?
Camera cleaning and refocusing, recorder health and storage checks, credential audits, battery replacement, and functional testing. Systems left unmaintained fail silently - which is the worst way for a security system to fail.
