Planning Maintenance, Fit-Out and Renovation Around Ramadan in the UAE
Ramadan changes working hours, deliveries and what neighbours will accept. A little planning keeps maintenance, fit-out and renovation projects on track.
Ramadan is
expected to begin around early February 2027, depending on the moon sighting.
It changes the rhythm of the whole country, and projects that ignore this tend
to slip. With a little planning, maintenance, fit-out and renovation can
continue smoothly.
What
changes
•
Working hours. Private
sector working hours are normally shortened during Ramadan, so crews are
available for fewer hours each day.
•
Building rules. Many
buildings and malls adjust the hours in which noisy or disruptive works are
allowed. Check with building management.
•
Deliveries and approvals.
Suppliers, authorities and landlords may work reduced hours, so lead times can
stretch.
•
Occupants' needs. Residents
and staff keep different routines, with quiet periods and evening activity.
Do
the heavy work before Ramadan
If a project
involves noisy, dusty or disruptive works, aim to complete them before Ramadan
begins. Use the weeks beforehand for demolition, structural work, drilling and
anything that needs full working days.
Service
your systems in advance
Homes and
offices are busy and full of guests during Ramadan, and an AC failure at this
time is particularly unwelcome. Make sure AC, water heaters and kitchen
plumbing are serviced beforehand. Our post on why villa AC units fail explains what to
check.
Choose
the right work for the month
Quieter
finishing tasks, such as painting preparation, joinery installation, minor
repairs and planned inspections, often suit the shorter days better than heavy
works. Scheduled preventive maintenance under an AMC
can continue as planned.
F&B
and retail openings
Restaurants,
cafes and shops that want to open for Ramadan should plan back from the opening
date, with approvals and inspections completed well ahead, as discussed in our restaurant fit-out guide.
Respect
the people around the site
•
Tell neighbours and occupants the
schedule in advance.
•
Keep noise and dust to a minimum.
•
Avoid eating, drinking and smoking
visibly on site, as a courtesy to those who are fasting.
Keep
communication clear
Agree the
Ramadan schedule in writing with your contractor, including working hours,
access times and any phases that move.
